Key Data/ Statistical Info
- recent surveys suggest upward of 80 per cent of consumers prefer and indulge in binge-watching behavior
- Researchers discovered that watching too many episodes of a programme in one go led to "significantly less enjoyment" than if they were viewed on a weekly basis.
The study involved 51 graduate and undergraduate students from the university, who were asked to watch the six, one-hour episodes of ''The Game''. The research found that the binge-watchers remembered most about the show the day after they had finished watching, but could not recall its contents in 140 days time. However, weekly viewers remembered the show for a whole day, and were also able to remember the show for a longer time.
In my opinion. I believe that binge- watching a show does not always make them less enjoyable. Developments in NDM in recent years, has now allowed people to stream their favourite shows on platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime and also access VOD. Therefore by allowing audiences to stream whenever they want, and wherever they want (whether its on a phone, tablet, etc), I think that it in fact makes it even more enjoyable to the viewer,as they can re-watch and react to their favourite shows. One example of this would be the new season of Game of Thrones- which is available on Sky Atlantic. The latest season- season 7- 2.83 million watched GOT on Sky Atlantic (a combined stat of the viewers at 2:00am and 9:00am)
